Surprise Parties can be as successful as the planning that goes into them.

It isn't difficult, but here are five (5) tips for planning a surprise party.

• Make sure it is clear on invitations that the event is a surprise party.
• Specify the start time on your invitation and make it clear that the start time is time that you want guests to arrive. It should be at least 30 minutes before you expect the guest-of-honour to arrive.
• Get an accomplice (or a group of your guests) to plan a "fake” activity with the guest-of-honour. This also has the effect of ensuring the honouree will be available that day to have their surprise sprung and you can better control and monitor the timing of their arrival.
• Make sure the guest-of-honour is doing an activity in which they are dressed appropriately for the surprise party. Ultimately, the party is for them so you want them to feel their best in front of their friends and family.
• Advise the caterer and other service providers that their business vehicles will need to be parked away from the venue until the surprise is hatched.

THEN:

Enjoy and have fun. You can't control everyone and someone might slip up but if you follow these steps you'll minimize the chances of having the surprise ruined.
